John Zhu2 months ago Scooter Signage and Enforcement in Our WardDear Councillor,I am writing to propose urgent, proactive enforcement against the illegal use of electric kick-scooters in our ward. Despite Toronto’s official ban on public infrastructure, e-scooters flood our neighborhood daily. Too many children ride them recklessly without helmets, and adults constantly operate them on sidewalks, creating severe safety hazards for seniors and vulnerable pedestrians.To fix this escalating safety crisis, I propose the city implement a zero-tolerance framework: Visible Neighborhood Signage: Install clear warning signs across our streets, parks, and major intersections stating that public e-scooter use is illegal and subject to fines. Expanded Enforcement Power: Formally authorize TTC Constables and Toronto Parking Enforcement officers—alongside police—to actively crack down on illegal riders. Ticketing and Confiscation: Mandate the immediate issuance of financial tickets and give officers the authority to seize and impound illegal devices on the spot. Our bylaws mean nothing without visible deterrence. I ask for your leadership in bringing this critical safety proposal to City Council. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how we can better protect our community’s sidewalks.

John Zhu2 months ago it creates a lot congestion and creates a huge carbon footprint. Having the paid parking in front of Metro grocery store half the time people don’t pay for parking. There’s never parking enforcement there and it creates a bottleneck and creates road. Rage with drivers. eliminate-altogether the parking . Have no parking there sign, and people can park underground. It will then also encourage people to walk more.

John Zhu3 months ago For the safety of the seniors and the children in our neighborhood, we need to ensure that we have a safe environment today I walked by a bus shelter at Yonge Street and Empress, and a homeless person was living in there. I called 3 1 1, but the process to remove or dismantle the unlawful squatting of public facilities. We have a men’s shelter at Cumer and Willowdale that should be utilized for these people. If we don’t take care of it now it will be hard to manage moving forward.

John Zhu6 months ago Hello,I am writing to raise a concern regarding the recently implemented “No Right Turn on Red” restriction at the intersection of Willowdale Avenue and Sheppard Avenue, for both northbound and southbound traffic.Since this change, I’ve noticed a significant increase in congestion at this intersection. Drivers attempting to turn left or proceed through the intersection are experiencing extended delays because right-turning vehicles are unable to clear the lane when the way is otherwise safe. Personally, I recently waited through three full light cycles just to complete a left-hand turn, largely due to backed-up traffic caused by the restriction.I fully appreciate and support the importance of pedestrian safety, especially given the high volume of foot traffic in this area. However, the current no-right-on-red restriction appears to be creating unintended consequences, including driver frustration, longer queues, and increased congestion. In some cases, this congestion may even increase risk as drivers grow impatient.I would respectfully ask that the City reconsider this restriction or conduct a review to assess whether allowing right turns on red—perhaps during certain hours or with additional signage—could improve traffic flow while still maintaining pedestrian safety.Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate the City’s ongoing efforts to balance safety and mobility, and I hope this concern can be reviewed.

John Zhu1 year ago Before there was no parking allowed in front of metro now with the increased population, we have parking allowed which is paid, but nobody pays for it and also cause a bottleneck there and I see people road rage when people are parking in front of Metro. They can just go park in the basement. Parking makes no sense. I hope the city can reconsider. Is it just make this and no parking zone you should see it around rush-hour people really getting aggressive with their driving too.

John Zhu8 months ago It’s becoming increasingly clear that we need to support the more vulnerable members of our community, especially here in Willowdale. Establishing a supervised self-injection site and a properly managed homeless shelter should be seriously considered. These services would provide safer conditions, reduce strain on emergency services, and offer a pathway for people to get back on their feet. They are not just “nice to have” — they are necessary for a healthier and more compassionate neighbourhood.

John Zhu1 year ago I am writing to raise a concern about multiple sinking manholes on Willowdale Avenue between Finch and Steeles, particularly when driving northbound. These depressions in the roadway are becoming increasingly dangerous and are a clear sign of poor pavement maintenance.As a taxpayer and resident, it is unacceptable to see infrastructure in such a state, especially given the safety risks to drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. This stretch of road requires immediate inspection and repair to prevent further degradation or accidents.Please advise whether this issue is currently on the City’s radar, and when we can expect remediation. If further information or reporting is needed from my end, I’m happy to assist.

John Zhu1 year ago I know this is a touchy subject. But with all the housing shortages, we have in Toronto and the challenges for the city to meet the budget spending. I think we need to re-look at how the vacancy taxes enforced.Could there be a possible incentives for taxpayers to report on homeowners or corporations not paying the vacancy tax?I know of one home in our neighborhood 132 byng. Avenue. The house has been vacant since it was acquired in 2017 and rebuilt with a massive home. No one‘s living there and the properties unkept.this house could easily be a home to two families. However, a corporation owns the home and is taking valuable housing for people in Toronto. I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this subject.

John Zhu10 months ago Have any of you reviewed the draft options and directions report to deal with the growth in North York?It’s very disturbing where they want add hundreds of thousands of more people and the report has not one mention of healthcare or increased hospital services. i’m all for population growth but right now in North York we have no vacancy. This plan in my opinion is very poor and does not have the input by subject matter experts.
