Unblock the Box at Yonge and Anndale

Zain Eliasson•2 years ago Yonge St and Anndale Ave is regularly blocked by selfish drivers who are in the intersection when the light is red. This prevents traffic flow from Anndale and Ponytz Ave, as well as endangers pedestrians who must play "Frogger" between the vehicles blocking the crosswalk, who are also pushing to get out of the way.Introduce red light cameras to fine scofflaws. And make the fines matter. unlike TPS who drop charges on traffic infractions.Toronto has the worst commute times in North America and is second worst in the world, largely due to bad parts of Highway 401 -- which is 500m away.

Need bicycle detector symbol WB Spring Garden Ave @ Willowdale Ave

Zain Eliasson•1 year ago Spring Garden Ave at Willowdale Ave has new traffic signals. The signal for Spring Garden Ave only changes if a vehicle is detected at the intersection. Otherwise the signal stays green for Willowdale traffic. While there is a symbol indicating where bicycles should wait eastbound Spring Garden, there is no such symbol westbound Spring Garden. A cyclist who wants to go straight or turn left must wait for a car, or treat the broken red as a stop sign.I have sent complaints into 311. They responded that they would investigate, which would take months. Months is too long! Someone needs to go there, look at ground and see there is no symbol. After more than a year and several complaints, there is no symbol.

Traffic Circle at Yonge and Sheppard

Zain Eliasson•2 years ago The traffic congestion at Yonge and Sheppard is one of the worst in the city. In order to avoid this terrible intersection, drivers are rat-running through Avondale. Local residents are complaining about the volume of through traffic. They claim they are unable to drive out of their homes, and there is a real concern over emergency services. Through-drivers need access to the 401 Highway. To address the issue of traffic, perhaps converting the intersection into a traffic circle would improve congestion. You don't stop and wait at a traffic circle, unlike a red light. Since there are no traffic lights, a traffic circle can handle more vehicles than a similar intersection. Because there is less waiting, there is no piling up of cars behind the first one. Traffic will also flow better in a circle than the intersection because a traffic circle does not need left-turn priority, like there is now. Go around the circle and exit at the desired direction. You can even U-turn. The traffic can flow better.A traffic circle would be safer for pedestrians because the individual crosswalk distances will be shorter, resulting is less exposure to getting hit. There are four lanes in each approach. The intersection is large and can accommodate the change easily. Changing the intersection into a traffic circle will require construction and detours, but a minor inconvenience for the sake of improvement may be worth it.
