Please read below for a background on each change proposal:
1. Traffic Calming (E.g. Speed Humps) installation on Maxome Ave, from Finch Ave E to Steeles Ave E.
Some residents have requested the installation of speed bumps on Maxome Avenue due to serious concerns about high-speed vehicles, which have become a safety issue on their street. Eighteen residents have also submitted a signed petition to our office supporting this request.
Residents have reported the following concerns:
Cars are speeding much over the posted speed limits. There are three schools namely St Agnes Catholic School, Lillian Public School, and Cummer Valley Middle School in the area. These young children walk to and from school and are at risk due to unsafe and reckless drivers. Alarmingly, many cars are not respecting traffic stop signs and pedestrian crossings. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of cars who use Maxome Avenue as a thoroughfare between Toronto and Markham thus increasing the volume of traffic travelling at high speeds. Furthermore, vehicles have started over-taking and honking cars obeying the speed limit in this residential and child-friendly neighbourhood.
Do you think Maxome Ave needs the requested speed humps/other traffic calming measures?
2. Removal of Left Turn Prohibition from Bishop Ave onto Maxome Ave.
Some residents have requested the removal of the left-turn prohibition from Bishop Avenue onto Maxome Avenue, Mon-Fri, between 3:30 and 7:00 PM. They have observed that this restriction has led to unintended consequences. Many drivers, including residents, are using side streets to make U-turns to reach their homes, creating additional traffic and safety concerns in the neighbourhood. They believe that lifting this restriction would streamline traffic flow and reduce the inconvenience for residents during rush hour.
Do you think this prohibition should be removed? If not, please explain. Submit your comment!
3. Removal of North-South Travel Prohibition on Steeles Ave E & Maxome Ave
Concerns arise in the Maxome/Henderson neighbourhood as residents face unexpected restrictions on their primary access route. Implemented Mon-Fri, between 4:00 PM-7:00 PM, the prohibition for north-south cut through from Maxome and Steeles negatively affect the daily commute of residents.
Do you think this restriction should be removed? If not, please explain why. Submit your comment!
