PB 2024: Share Your Ideas, Willowdale West!

The Participatory Budgeting Idea Collection will take place through both in-person events and online submissions via our community engagement portal- Willowdaleactionhub.ca. To increase the likelihood of your project idea moving forward in the PB process, we encourage you to take ownership of your idea by becoming an in-person Project Champion. When submitting your idea online, please indicate your willingness to serve as a Project Champion in the comment section to ensure your idea has a better chance to be considered in the PB process.

You will need to SIGN UP on www.willowdaleactionhub.ca to drop your comment in the 'Share Your Ideas Willowdale West' folder.

IMPORTANT: Please mention in the description of your IDEA- "I will be the Project Champion for this idea"

Who is a PROJECT CHAMPION? A Project Champion is a participant who submits an idea through the Participatory Budgeting (PB) process and collaborates closely with Councillor Cheng's staff to turn their idea into reality from start to finish. One of the key responsibilities of a Project Champion is to mobilize their idea in the community to gather maximum support.

Jim Gratsas2 years ago Tennis and Pickleball are booming in popularity, but free public spaces to play are limited. New courts in the southwest quadrant of Edithvale Park (see pic) would be a great addition to the Edithvale hub of activities in the heart of West Willowdale. Existing courts in Hendon Park (see pic) need rehabilitation and are poorly located, cut off by the TTC parking lot and Hydro corridor to the north and Finch to the south. Edithvale would be a far better location for courts in the heart of the community.

Jim Gratsas2 years ago Willowdale West has many grass boulevards between the sidewalk and road. But many boulevard stretches lack a tree.Planting a city tree on every boulevard spot lacking a tree would add 100s of new trees, providing shade and cleaner air and beautifying Willowdale West for future generations. The city should also budget to water new boulevard trees during the critical first year when there's a period of drought to help roots establish.

Jim Gratsas2 years ago Install a round wading pool that slopes down a few feet to a centre pillar. Old City of Toronto has 50+ such wading pools (see pic) and I believe North York has zero.Wading pools offer a very different experience versus a splash pad (like the one in Hendon Park). Splash pads spray freezing cold water, whereas wading pool water warms up during the day. Wading pools allow young children to simulate swimming by floating on their bellys while walking with their arms. Wading pool perimeter is like a shallow shoreline where young children can walk in the water.

Beatrix Kiddo2 years ago My idea is to ensure traffic doesn’t come to a crushing halt like it has on lower Yonge st, Avenue road, University, bloor st.please do not take away lanes for cars. Our section of yonge street is still fairly wide and rightly so as a main thoroughfare.i would propose bike lanes be put in on parallel streets such as Doris and bee Croft.another endeavor to keep yonge street flowing but safe. More red light cameras, more speed cameras and speed bumps on yonge after the off ramp exit at the 401 to help stop the road racing from motorcycles that tear up yonge street.pretty much every night we get woken up by a screaming motorcycle engine being revved at high in low gear.something has to be done.

Christopher Smith2 years ago Churchill Avenue currently only has a sidewalk on the North side of the street. Churchill Avenue serves a significant number of pedestrians who are commuting to two major schools and a church. The density of this neighbourhood is also intensifying with new townhouse developments. A new sidewalk on the South side of the street, until Abbotsford, would greatly increase pedestrian safety because it would discourage jaywalking amongst children and the elderly. It would also encourage more mixed use on this busy road. Alternatively, additional stop signs or crosswalks could be added on key intersections. This would also decrease the risk of crossing the road to the South side of the street. Stop signs or crosswalks on Tamsworth or Abbotsford, where townhouses and parks are located, would be especially welcome.
