PB 2026: Share Your Ideas, Newtonbrook East!

The Participatory Budgeting Idea Collection will take place through both in-person events and online submissions via our community engagement portal- Willowdaleactionhub.ca. To increase the likelihood of your project idea moving forward in the PB process, we encourage you to take ownership of your idea by becoming an in-person Project Champion. When submitting your idea online, please indicate your willingness to serve as a Project Champion in the comment section to ensure your idea has a better chance to be considered in the PB process.

Who is a PROJECT CHAMPION? A Project Champion is a participant who submits an idea through the Participatory Budgeting (PB) process and collaborates closely with Councillor Cheng's staff to turn their idea into reality from start to finish. One of the key responsibilities of a Project Champion is to mobilize their idea in the community to gather maximum support.

You will need to SIGN UP on www.willowdaleactionhub.ca to submit your IDEA in the 'Share Your Ideas Newtonbrook East' folder.

IMPORTANT: Please mention in the description of your IDEA- " I will be the Project Champion for this idea"

Alynne Lavigne5 days ago I would like to propose the installation of an inclusive outdoor fitness station at Bishop Park, with durable equipment that supports strength, mobility, cardio, balance, and low-impact exercise for adults and older residents.Suggested equipment could include a sit-up bench, an adult arm and pedal bike, a leg press station, and a low-impact rebounder with handholds or support rails, designed specifically for safe public-park fitness use. Together, these would provide options for core strength, seated cardio, upper- and lower-body movement, leg strengthening, balance, coordination, and gentle exercise.This would give residents a free, accessible, outdoor way to stay active close to home. It would be especially useful for adults, seniors, walkers, caregivers, and residents who may not have easy access to a gym or indoor recreation facility. The equipment should be selected with accessibility, safety, durability, and year-round maintenance in mind.Suggested equipment: sit-up bench, adult arm and pedal bike, leg press station, and low-impact rebounder with handholds/support rails.

Miles Collyer5 days ago With the expansion of Bishop Park, all the very outdated and damaged playground equipment needs to be replaced and modernized. My family would like to see swing-sets added, and even more imaginative styles of play equipment and play possibilities introduced (things with high affordance). Let’s see some fantastic free-play possibilities such as open-ended building equipment, or sink holes and splash-pads. This style of open-ended interpretive play infrastructure could even open up possibilities for new and exciting educational references to historical aspects of the neighborhood itself, such as drawing upon the historical Newtonbrook Creek which ran through this exact area, John Finch’s Hotel, or the Wendat agricultural villages which existed here. Iman Arastoo1 month ago I propose the installation of additional high-efficiency LED street lights and pedestrian-activated crosswalk signals at key intersections in our neighborhood. Many residents, including seniors and students, walk to local parks and schools daily. Improved lighting and safer crossings will reduce the risk of accidents and discourage antisocial behavior in darker areas. This project directly supports the "Vision Zero" safety goals and makes our streets more walkable and inclusive for everyone

Natasha Mansouri3 months ago The expansion of Bishop Allotment Garden would provide more opportunities for members of the community to grow their own food and share their produce with others.Gardening offers significant benefits for both mental and physical health. Working outdoors, nurturing plants, and seeing tangible results from one’s efforts fosters a sense of productivity, purpose, and personal control. It encourages physical activity while also providing a calming and restorative environment.An expansion would also strengthen connections among gardeners who share similar interests. It creates space for exchanging ideas, offering practical support, and learning from one another. These interactions help build meaningful relationships and contribute to a more cohesive and supportive community.Growing our own food is also an intergenerational activity. Grandparents can contribute in their own ways, sharing knowledge and experience, while children learn through hands-on participation. It strengthens family bonds, provides positive role models, sets valuable examples, and empowers people of all ages.Increasing the size of the allotment is environmentally responsible and aligns with principles of sustainability, stewardship, and active citizenship. It promotes respectful and productive use of the land while encouraging local food production and reducing environmental impact.The current allotments have long waiting lists. I have personally lost track of how many years I have been waiting. Many people within the community would readily welcome and benefit from the opportunity to have a plot.As this may be the final opportunity to secure funding to improve our area, we must act now. If we do not take advantage of this opportunity, it may not arise again.

P Castellarin7 months ago Newton is a long street from Yonge to Bayview Avenue. While there is some sidewalk on Newton, it is incomplete. The street is a thorough fare and curvy. It would be much safer if the street had a sidewalk from start to finish.The sidewalk on Newton starts at Bayview and goes as far as Conacher then there is no sidewalk until you reach Lillian. On the west side of Lillian is restarts and goes over to Willowdale. There are schools and parks in the area. I think residents and children who walk would appreciate a safer roadway.

Eli Law7 months ago Proposal: Extend the Willowdale Avenue Bike Lane from Finch to SteelesSummary Request approval and funding to extend the existing Willowdale Avenue bike lane northward from Finch Avenue to Steeles Avenue, using the same protected, separated design currently in the Willowdale East neighbourhood.Rationale and BenefitsTraffic Flow Reduction Willowdale Avenue has experienced rising motor-vehicle volumes and noise. Adding a continuous, safe cycling corridor reliably shifts a portion of short-distance local trips (school, errands, transit connections) from cars to bikes, reducing congestion and idling. Safety Improvements A protected, separated bike lane dramatically lowers collision risk compared with painted or mixed-traffic cycling. Continuity of the existing south segment prevents “drop-off” zones where cyclists must merge into high-volume traffic. Health and Community Benefits Safer infrastructure increases active-transportation use, supporting public health, reducing chronic disease risk, and promoting family-friendly mobility. Noise reduction and calmer traffic support a more livable street environment for residents. Network Connectivity Extending the lane to Steeles creates a north–south spine that connects to transit routes and nearby cycling corridors, improving regional mobility. It eliminates a current gap between Finch and Steeles that discourages bike commuting and school-area cycling. Cost-Effectiveness Protected lanes using modular barriers, bollards, and curb separators are cost-efficient compared with road-widening or major traffic-engineering projects. Shelly Giggey1 year ago The playground really needs an upgrade to more modern equipment. Maxome park (at Northwood) was upgraded to MUCH nicer look & functional.Center Ave park has become a 'slum hangout" & we are fed up. Kids & parents aren't comfortable being around drunk & dirty people. Or someone shooting upf 5 ft away from their toddler/them.I don't feel comfortable there anymore. I loved working out in the park but their's garbage and - we know those tents will be back. One woman last year had a terrible addiction problem. She'd have rage fits which is SCARY to be around. WE WANT OUR CITY AND PARKS SAFE & CLEAN AGAIN.Please help with this. We pay taxes, yet our parks are now dirty and uncomfortable to be in. This is unfair for all of us to suffer stepping HUMAN POOP or seeing pee puddles, & needles, and liquor bottles/cans, cancer sticks, food containers and more.

Ewa Timachy1 year ago One of the fastest growing sports in North America needs to be facilitated . Proposal : each tennis court has 2 courts . One of tennis court surface can accommodate 2 pickelball courts. it would need 2 permanent nets and lines on the existing surface . or at least the current tennis court net stays and the city can draw on each half of the tennis court the pickelball court lines and participant have to bring portable nets to set up their game .right now the for example Wedgwood park has only extra lines for pickelball lines using existing tenis court and net ( which is too high for pickelball game ) so it’s useless as it is it to the standards and also waste of space currently many up north towns have designated tennis courts converted into pickelball courts or versatile use of tennis courts to play pickelball the surface will be also appreciated
