Left Turn Prohibition from Bishop Ave onto Maxome Ave

Some residents have requested the removal of the left-turn prohibition from Bishop Avenue onto Maxome Avenue, Mon-Fri, between 4:00 and 7:00 PM. They have observed that this restriction has led to unintended consequences. Many drivers, including residents, are using side streets to make U-turns to reach their homes, creating additional traffic and safety concerns in the neighbourhood. They believe that lifting this restriction would streamline traffic flow and reduce the inconvenience for residents during rush hour.

Larry Gross9 months ago The point of restricting turns at Bishop and Maxome is clearly to prevent it from becoming a through neighbourhood shortcut, for huge volumes of vehicles that use one of North Yorks largest TTC parking lots on Bishop, and as a shortcut to the Finch Northern Terminal TTC Subway station, and the regional bus station. Everyone who lives in the neighbourhood knows how to get around, and nobody wants Yonge Street, Willowdale Avenue, or Bayview Avenue, traffic choosing Maxome and Bishop, for their shortcut.

Bruce Valliant1 year ago All these kinds of prohibitions to try to control traffic always just move the problem to other areas of the neighbourhood, whether it is drivers doing U-turns in side streets, or using private driveways, or forcing drivers to use entirely different residential streets. By removing this restriction, traffic flow becomes more efficient with less congestion which should the ultimate goal in street design.

Joanne Laing1 year ago I don’t live right there so am not impacted. But having taught at CVMS for many years, more northbound traffic in the morning or afternoon school start and end times would be crazy. Parents insist they must pick their children up right at the doors so the congestion is crazy. Very dangerous. Adding people turning at that time going north from Bishop would just add to it. I’ve seen too many narrow misses over the years. If something could be done about that section around the school, I would have no issues with the prohibition being lifted. Just don’t need more traffic at those school times.

Alan Bobkin2 years ago The afternoon turn restrictions make it impossible to access my house on Laredo Court from the west due to the additional turn restrictions from eastbound Finch to northbound Maxome. I can either turn right from Bishop on to Maxome and make a u-turn at or on Winlock Park, or I can go up Willowdale Ave to Cummer, over to Maxome and back down. This increases pollution and increases traffic on Willowdale Ave. Why are the residents of Willowdale Ave (and Cummer) not deserving of reduced traffic. The bottom line is there will always be traffic and all these restrictions do is move it from one street to another
