Crosswalk - Park Home Avenue

Some residents from 55-65 Ellerslie are asking if a crosswalk can be installed mid block on Park Home between Yonge and Beecroft (https://bit.ly/parkhomeave) as they frequently jaywalk across this path to connect to North York Centre Station.

The crosswalk request is within 75m of the Park Home/Beecroft Ave intersection, and 300m of the Yonge/Park Home intersection.

Georgina Phillips2 years ago There are already too many pedestrian collisions at the controlled intersection of Beecroft and Park Home. Having a crosswalk so close to that intersection, in my opinion, will likely only increase the number of collisions with pedestrians. In addition, most of the eastbound traffic on that stretch of Park Home is turning off of Beecroft, and this doesn’t give them much time to notice the crosswalk and prepare to stop.

2 years ago There is a stoplight 75 metres away from the proposed crosswalk. People can walk to the stoplight. There is also a small road from the condos in the area that connect with Park Home Ave between Yonge St and Beecroft, and a number of near accidents at this location due to drivers being unable to see beyond the parked cars there. Adding a crosswalk will result in more quick stopping and increase the potential for more accidents at that location. We have more important things to spend the city’s time and money on. Walk to the stoplight.

2 years ago I'm really disappointed in the way this post framed the discussion by introducing it as a pet benefit just for the residents of one building (despite benefiting anyone that walks through here.)You put more emphasis on how close it is to intersections, but ignore the reality of people already crossing / wanting to cross.You then go on to frame it as an unecessary expense (despite being a very low cost action)This really comes across as a fishing expedition to draw negative responses to justify not doing anything for the safety Willowdale pedestrians.The majority of your constituents would never notice whether this exists or not. But you have raised the discussion in a way for them to get angry at lazy people wanting to spend their money.

vicky onthehouse9 months ago A cross walk is an excellent idea! It would slow down racing cars between Yonge and Beecroft, which are an issue in an area that connects both to a park, LOTS of apartments, offices, condos, and a public library. It would also partly mitigate the dangerous conditions off the small street that runs in front of Gibson House Museum and the Childcare space, which allows two-way traffic that also often races. And where do we get the notion that these comments are representative of 55 65 Ellerslie Ave peeps - I live here and no-one ever asked me. Who we actually hear from in these forums?
