Safety Concerns Around New Hendon Park Entrance
From "Lets Talk Traffic Willowdale"
Go to the project

After emailing Councillor Lily Cheng’s office in both February and May with no response, I wanted to bring this safety issue directly to the community to see if others feel the same.
The new Hendon Park redesign introduces two major safety hazards near the 28 Byng Avenue (Monaco) driveway:
- Blind Spot at the Entrance: The new park entrance and bike racks are positioned just meters from the Monaco driveway. Cyclists and pedestrians will emerge suddenly, giving exiting drivers almost zero reaction time. Because of the poor sightlines, the current design actively incentivizes drivers to block the sidewalk just to see oncoming traffic. -->Solution: Swap the entrance/bike racks with the adjacent grass patch to create a safe buffer zone.
- Driveway Gridlock: Drivers on Doris Ave frequently block the Monaco exit while waiting for the light at Doris and Byng. With the upcoming Doris Ave expansion and increased park traffic, this gridlock will only get worse --> Solution: Install a "Do Not Block Driveway" sign at the northern 28 Byng exit so cars can pull out safely without straddling the sidewalk.
These small adjustments would go a long way in keeping this corner of Willowdale safe.
