BLUE LED LIGHTING ON SUBWAY PLATFORMS — A Simple Fix That Saved Lives

From "Share Your Project and Policy Ideas"

Go to the project

The problem: Mental health crises and impulsive incidents on subway platforms are hard to prevent once someone is already in distress.

The solution: Install blue LED light panels on platforms. Blue light has a documented calming effect.

The proof: Japan’s East Japan Railway Company installed blue LED panels on platforms in 2009. Suicides at those stations dropped by 84%.

Request that TTC pilot blue LED lighting at the three Willowdale-area stations with goal to implement on all Toronto stations
